Big Firm Experience
William "Bill" Miranda is former KPMG LLP tax partner with more than 20 years of "big firm" experience.
Bill has significant experience in the oil and gas industry. Bill had the good fortune of working with Bill Russell at KPMG and Ray Jones at Arthur Andersen LLP during his career, both outstanding oil and gas tax practitioners. At KPMG, Bill co-authored and edited a respected textbook on oil and gas taxation and was a frequent writer and speaker on oil and gas industry taxation. Bill continues to provide a federal tax update each year at the North American Petroleum Conference in Dallas and teach courses in oil and gas taxation and partnership taxation for the Professional Development Institute.
While working with oil and gas industry clients, Bill became very familiar with the taxation of partnerships, S corporations, and limited liability companies. This led to opportunities to serve clients in many other industries besides oil and gas, such has health care, real estate, restaurants, hospitality, and service industries.
Big firm experience included working with both public and private companies and with wealthy individuals and family offices, helping Bill to gain valuable experience in the taxation of individuals and trusts.
Bill had a rare opportunity to work in Canada while with KPMG, leading the US international tax practice in the Calgary office of KPMG for 3 years. Bill learned much about taxation of expatriate individuals and cross-border transactions by US and Canadian businesses during this assignment.
